The new report estimates that almost half of all adults in the US have a cardiovascular disease that is a medical breakthrough, mainly due to the latest guidelines that extended the number of people with high blood pressure.
The American Heart Association says that in 2016, more than 121 million adults had cardiovascular disease. With the exception of those with high blood pressure, there are 24 million or 9% of adults with other forms of illness, such as heart failure or clogged arteries.
High blood pressure is considered to be above 130 over 80. It increases the risk of heart attacks, strokes and many other problems. Only about half of those who are in control of it.
