The Chinese calendar is made up of 12-year cycles, and each of these seasons is represented by an animal that is one year old, but the eastern horoscope was also heavily influenced by the elements of its traditional culture.

Unlike the western horoscope, where your sign depends on a constellation where the sun is every day, everything in the Chinese horoscope depends on which year you were born, so there are twelve signs of the zodiac: rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon , snake, horse, goat, monkey, cock, dog and pig.

In this way, we can determine that the human destiny is affected by the state of the planet and the time of human birth together with the state of the sun, moon and comets. In addition, there is a legend that talks about creating a Chinese horoscope.

Legend of 12 Chinese zodiac animals

There is a very popular legend throughout China that could be described as the origin of the Chinese horoscope.

The Emperor Jade, the king of heaven, called the race for all the animals in the world and said that the first twelve entrances to the zodiac were. To reach their meeting, they had to cross the river.

In those times, rats and cats were great friends. But although they were very reasonable, they were the worst swimmers in the animal kingdom. So they decided that the best and fastest way to cross the river was to do it on the back of the bull.

Biffel agreed to carry them across the river. However, in order to win the prize, the rats decided that he had to do something to win, so he threw the cat in the water: since then the cat became a natural enemy of the rat and water. The rat then reached the shore and said the first place in the race, closely following the strong buffalo, which was named the second zodiac animal.

Beyond the buffalo came a tiger who explained how he had to fight with torrents and how, thanks to his great strength, he could get to the shore and become a third animal.

The fourth position of the Zodiac was a rabbit who, thanks to his ability to jump, could move from one shore to another, but also explained to the emperor that he had fallen into the river without a piece of floating water.

Later, the dragon flew, telling the emperor that he couldn't get there because he had to stop to create rain to help people and the creatures of the earth. In addition, in the final stage, he got into a rabbit that caught the trunk, helping him to force his breath to reach the shore. The emperor, surprised by his kindness, gave him the fifth place in the zodiac.

Soon after, the horse came out, but the snake scared him and ordered him. So the snake finally took sixth place while the horse took the seventh place.

Goat, monkey and cock near the river are nearby. Three creatures helped each other to cross it: the rooster built a wooden raft for all three, but the goat and the monkey cleaned the soil and so, swimming and rowing, they managed to reach the opposite shore. The emperor, very pleased with the work of the animal team, called the goat, the eighth animal, but the monkey and the cock gave them the ninth and tenth.

Although the dog had to be in good condition to be the best swimmer of all animals, it was delayed because after a long race it needed a bath, and when I see the freshwater in the river, I can't resist. He was therefore awarded the eleventh place.

Only when the emperor was ready to close the race, he heard a small pig that had begun to be very hungry, so that shortly after he came, he left and slept. When he woke up, he continued the race and arrived only as a zodiac animal.

Finally, the cat arrived too late, took the 13th place and was unable to win the calendar, so his hatred for the rats turned him into a bitter enemy forever.

This would have created a Chinese horoscope, and these are the years that were awarded to each of the 12 zodiac animals.
