Elliott Abram, Special Representative of the United States in Venezuela, said on Thursday at the United Nations Security Council (UN) that there are members of the organization that protect Nicolas Maduro.
"Voting against this resolution, some members of this council continue to protect Maduro, and events over the weekend show Maduro is not stopping to maintain power," said Abram.
The United States proposed a resolution to require free elections in Venezuela. Nine countries voted in favor, three voted against and three abstained.
The resolution was not approved because Russia, a permanent member of the Council, voted against
