Former Leeds United star Tony Dorigo was headbutted by his girlfriend jealous ex.
NHS boss Gareth Senior, 48, saw Dorigo's store with Claire Joss and cried: "I knew you were after her."
Dorigo, 52, said: "I heard a shout and I felt too much kick from the back.
"He swore and said various things. I really did not understand it.
"He pushed me down. He attracted me to the top of my nose and lip. I thought there was a bit of blood.
"I managed to come back, or my nose would be damaged."
The IT chief of the senior was convicted of assault, causing an actual bodily injury to the Leeds magistrates' court.
His attorney Stuart Field said: "Leeds United is his passion and among his characters was Tony Dorigo."
He added that the parent would now be subject to NHS investigations and could lose his job.
Senior 18-month relationship with colleague NHS worker Miss Joss, 43, ended two months before the bust-up.
She said she gave the subject "The White Company" at Leeds and reminded: "Gareth yelled over me, the words that he was going to kill Tony."
She said she came between Dorigo and her ex-partner in an attempt to stop any form of violence and admitted that she twice called "threatened" her threats.
She added: "He said it was not over and he was about to break his legs."
The prime minister told the court: "My emotions were strong, but I am not a violent person, and I have never been a violent person.

"I am ashamed and uncomfortable about approaching Mr Dorigo in the way I did. If it is possible, I would like to express my apologies to Mr Dorigo and Mr Claire."
But he told District Court Vice-President Paul Currer: "There is no evidence of any headbutt."
Senior was fined GBP 500 and was ordered to pay Dorigo € 100 compensation plus € 300 in court fees.
Dorigo, now pundits from Australia, played 171 times for Leeds from 1991 to 1997 and won 15 England caps. Other his clubs are Chelsea and Aston Villa. Later he played on the Italian side of Turin, Derby and Stok.
