Post Excludes Telecoms Prices at Affiliates – News Economics: Businesses



Is it a mobile subscription from Swisscom or Salt, a prepaid card from Sunrise, or even a new smartphone from the Chinese manufacturer Huawei? To receive such products, users no longer need to visit the Telecom operator store or Mobilezone. You can access them by inserting a letter or a post in the post office.

Switzerland mail offers a wide range of telecommunications branches. It is part of a federal consulting business to improve the profitability of its operations – to date.

Although Raiffeisen's banks are reviewing entry into the telecommunications product market, postal items are in red with smartphones and mobile subscriptions. Last year, the yellow giant had a deficit of 22.7 million francs.

Inner paper informs the executives

The reason: the need for mail clients to get telecommunication stores is small. Accordingly, sales figures are generally not satisfactory. It shows the internal paper that is available in this newspaper. The document is addressed to all Heads of the Postal Business Division, which are subject to almost 1200 branches.

In principle, Swiss Post wants to tap into the telecoms offer. "Despite the complexity of the market environment, telecom products must continue to be part of a third-party product portfolio in the post office," François Fearer, the sender of the letter says upon request.

However, the company has decided on various measures that "we want to get out of the loss zone," as stated in the internal document. Most importantly, Post of 600 stores is leaving this company. The comparison is that mail departments selling less than one telecom product per day should withdraw the offer. The exit is blocked by the end of the year. Among others, there are also Koppigen BE, Grellingen BL and Niederweningen ZH.

Slimmer telecom price during test

The Swiss Post hopes that this step will not lead to any direct job cuts in the affected sectors. The sale of telecommunications products is only a small part of the work, there is a reason. At Syndicom you rub your eyes anyway. "It's amazing," says Christian Capacoel, an unionist. "Over the years, Post has managed its employees in its branches to generate more revenue in telecommunications, only to find that this offer is not paying off."

As a second measure, Swiss Express is currently testing a thinner telecom offer in 20 selected German and Swiss branches. These include Belp BE, Uster ZH and Birsfelden BL. It completely eliminates Swisscom, Sunrise and Salt products from the leading Swiss brands. Instead, the company relies on low priced brands in Swiss mobile operators such as M-Budget (Swisscom), Yallo (Sunrise) and Subscription (Salt).

The reward behind this is evident: less effort is required for advice, as low-cost initial offers are facing a small amount of wealth. And the post office also says selling good equipment.

Swisscom has learned that Swiss Post has already benefited from the Swiss market leader's offerings from its range. Swisscom spokeswoman Sepp Huber confirms on request: "Together with Swiss Post, we decided not to ship Swisscom products through branch offices in the Swiss branch until the end of August 2018." Sales figures have fallen in recent years.

Sunrise spokeswoman Rolf Ziebold says that the second number in the Swiss mobile market welcomes Swiss Post's decision: "The planned focus on smaller telecommunications products helps to better position the remaining products." The salt did not react.

A Telecomsortiment correction is being launched, says Postspeaker Furer. This process is "not yet completed". He points out that customers can still add prepaid SIM cards to all self-regulatory branches.

Tests in paid service shops

The post office also wants to know how customers respond to paid services in the test sectors. When you download a smartphone, you must pay for installing apps and transferring data from your old phone.

In addition to the new sales model, Post and mobile operators also agreed to a larger compensation for the yellow giant. If the test is successful, Swiss Post plans to introduce a new service throughout Switzerland until mid-2019.
