the exhibition Useful photo. Photography in contemporary Slovak art paintings exhibited by the media (Painting for painting, SNG, 2010-2011) and Graphics (Raw School, LNG, 2017) is another multimedia exhibition in the Slovak National Gallery program.

The exhibition reflects the contemporary photography in Slovakia from another perspective – the development in this environment over the last decade has been perceived as an integral part of contemporary visual art. Based on the assumption that the author's distribution to photographers and non-photographers is archaic experience or concept that is no longer functional. We are changing the current view of the current Slovak photo. The view is simplified, distorted and often limited to "guilty" affiliation.

The purpose of this exhibition is to bring the photograph closer together not only as a useful, fast recording medium, "time document", but also as a tool for digital manipulation, but as an instrument suitable for various contemporary art applications. Show the photo as a medium for the widest possible environment.

The impact of digital technologies has been a paradoxical situation: many authors have not gone through simple manipulation of digital images, but have just begun to explore media constraints, capabilities and boundaries using conventional photography techniques. It seems that digitization has created a new need for better exploration of the possibilities of analog photography. In the digital era, formal personality, technical or technological skills are no longer so important. That is precisely the content and context of artistic expression.

What's not changed is environmental, its usefulness as an entry, a documentation, an archive, a "truth", a technical copy, or as a means by which simply changing the crop, the angle of the image or the fragment of reality allows the author to change the context and the nature of the work. On the other hand, the private documented reality is recently developed, arranged, staged (for example, in a space installation), but through the use of photographic techniques and media properties. Therefore, we are talking about a photo exhibition, not an exhibition of photographs.

In modern photography, in economics, that is, in the economy and in the efficiency of the processes used, the reduction, which is associated with a complete focus on the center of gravity, a clear-cut or simple idea, is more often promoted. Thanks to this, photography becomes useful in contemporary art, and traditionally distributed visual art finds a common platform. However, this basic position does not exclude a wide range of authoring practices and strategies, which are also reflected in the distribution of the exhibition.

The first part of Esterházy Palace on the 3rd floor is devoted to more non-authoritative photographs of the occupied photograph. Artists use the photographic materials here from print or from the Internet – the author is the way this embedded image material is included in their projects. Here is also a photo as a recording medium that helps to capture situations, events created by the performers themselves – performers in the middle of everyday life. The workshops are represented by Kirill Blažo, Petra Feriancová, Katarína Hrušková, Ján Kekeli, Martin Kotsan, Roman Ondaks, Lucia Papčová, Katarína Poliačiková and Viktors Šelesták.

On the 2nd floor, the newly created, in fact, mainly focuses on the author's photography, which is the vision of the artists themselves. There are ways to use it in multimedia art projects. The photo is used in combination with other art forms and becomes a complex (visual) audio message. His works are Piter Fabo, Dominika Jackuliakova, Lucia Sceranková, Ján Šipöcs, Milan Tittel, Martin Vongrej and Jaroslav Žiak.
