Ministry of Health: Last week the incidence of measles in Ukraine has increased by 35%

In the last week, measles has increased by 35% compared to the previous week. This report was published on November 13tha the press service of the Ukrainian Ministry of Health.

It is noted that last week 1682 people were ill with measles – 506 adults and 1176 children.

Since the beginning of 2018, 38,108 people have been ill with measles (14,609 adults and 23,499 children, 15 people (four adults and 11 children) died of complications.

The Ministry of Health has emphasized that measles is most affected in areas where vaccination is the lowest. In particular, in Lviv (7,845 people), Ivano-Frankivsk (3816 people), Transcarpathia (3,582 people) and Odessa (2,567) regions. And also in the city of Kiev – 2,445 people.

The health ministry recalled that there is no treatment for measles, and the only way to protect from diseases is to vaccinate.

Mass is an acute infectious viral disease that can be fatal. The main symptoms of the disease are fever, inflammation of the mucous membranes of the oral cavity and the upper respiratory tract, conjunctivitis, maculopapular skin rash and general intoxication.

The measles virus is extremely sticky, it is rapidly transmitted with droplets in the air. This virus can live in the air and on surfaces for no longer than two hours after the patient leaves the room. Nine out of 10 non-immunized people in contact with the patient become infected.

On September 13, 2018, the Ukrainian Ministry of Health prohibits unvaccinated children from attending schools.
