Nerdgasms ASUS | I tested the new ASUS Zenbook Flip S, a very versatile convertible notebook TECHNOLOGY

Asus continues to invest in new laptops not only for a highly competitive gaming world, but also for everyday work tasks. This time it is presented in the Peruvian market with the new ASUS Zenbook Flip S UX371, a notebook that takes versatility to new levels without losing power.

We know that a laptop, no matter how portable, will always need some support in the components that make it heavy and inconvenient to carry. These qualities are those that play a balance between the actions that can be performed by the machine and the need to move.

These lines featured so-called notebooks, which were thinner, smaller and more versatile laptops with sufficient ability to respond to everyday work tasks.

With all this in mind, technology companies continued to innovate to get the best equipment in terms of components and technology, but took care of minimalist trends in notebook size, weight and portability.

This line is new Zenbook Flip S, equipment that surprises ASUS offering versatility and portability without forgetting technology. A notebook that has nothing to envy the laptops on the market.

As usual, if you’re one of those looking for specific data, here’s a summary with its technical specifications:

  • Screen: OLED 4K UHD NanoEdge with PANTONE validation
  • Resolution: 3.840 x 2.160 pixels HDR certificate VESA display HDR 500 True Black

  • RAM memory: Up to 16 GB
  • Graphics: Intel Iris Xe

  • Autonomy: Up to 15 hours (67 Wh)
  • Weight: 1.2 kg
  • Thickness: 13.9 mm

A hallmark of ASUS is the sleek design of its devices, which are carefully finished with Jade Black with cut edges. The keyboard is well-used all over the world, and the center and bottom touchpad with the dual function of the numeric keypad and mouse.

However, the key to this equipment is the 360 ° capability offered by the ErgoLift hinge, which takes the screen completely to the back of the equipment for use as a tablet or in various positions with angles designed as supports.

This ability to use a notebook and sacrifice the keyboard is no problem, thanks to the NanoEdge touchscreen, which is ideal for using the ASUS Pen – a pen with amazing sensitivity to cursor action in addition to trouble-free drawing or writing on the screen.

Something that I think might make you feel uncomfortable is the keyboard backlight that seems to emanate between each key. For people at night like me, this lighting is not discreet at all and could rather be considered annoying.

According to the latest connections, this notebook decided to be minimalist about ports, which is my main and perhaps the only equipment problem.

The Zenbook Flip S comes with the smallest power button I’ve come across and a USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A port on the right. On the left is a full-size HDMI 2.0 port and two USB-C Thunderbolt 4 ports. Where can I connect headphones? Asus solves this with an adapter cable that takes one of the USB-C Thunderbolt 4. Too bad.

I’ve always criticized brands for forcing users to purchase additional adapters to connect their peripherals. I understand that the next generation of connectors needs to evolve and that this was the only way to reduce equipment, but it severely limits the work and enjoyment of many users.

Undoubtedly, the workhorse of this team is in this section. The high processing power of the Intel® EVO ™ platform, equipped with the latest 11th generation Intel® Core ™ i7 processor, makes this notebook a complete envy of the most supportive laptops.

It is a real feat that these components fit into an ultra-thin chassis that is only 13.9 mm thick and weighs 1.2 kg.

However, in my opinion, the best thing is its NanoEdge OLED UHD touch screen up to 4K with DisplayHDR 500 True Black certification, which provides quite high image and color quality. The extremely fast 0.2 ms response time also ensures action-free operation and smooth scrolling.

The touch screen and its pressure recognition with the Asus pen make drawing a truly enjoyable activity. A friend of the designer had the opportunity to do some strokes, and he agreed with me on the fabulous capabilities of this notebook in this regard.

This new notebook is much more than what you would expect from a computer of this size and nature. Thanks to its versatility, it is perfect for everyday work and portability.

Its best is its high processing power and high-quality touch screen with bright and very realistic colors. However, the small ports and the need for additional adapters to take full advantage of its features are a problem for many users.
