Fires on Wednesday strikes several fires along the railway lines between Templeton and Rollestone.
Firefighting teams have cleared several bush fires between Templeton and Rollestone, southwest of Christchurch.
The fires started along the railway lines near the State Highway 1 on Main South Rd only after. 12.40 on Wednesday.
Fire and Emergency Service New Zealand spokeswoman Andrew Norris said five crew and two water tankers were sent to fight several fires that burn along trains.
He said that a train running south through Rollestone was the cause of fires.
It was unclear what was wrong, but it could be several things.
"This is paused and checked and no other issues have been found to be sent on the way"
The police spokesman said a strong wind in the area could lead to further spread of fire.
The main South Rd was temporarily closed, while the crew depleted the fires. It was reopened just before 13:30.
