The sharp rise in the number of Covid-19 cases in the United States has put pressure on the health care system, which could lead to temporary blockages, Dr. Anthony Fauci, the nation’s leading expert on infectious diseases, told CNN. CNN.
Fauci specifically referred to conversations he had with fellow doctors in Los Angeles, California, where the health care system is “really tense.”
“There are some situations where they will make a temporary blockade because they can no longer put pressure on the health care system,” Fauci said. “It is inconceivable that no one wants to happen that when you have so much stress in beds and staff, health care staff, you will deprive people of all the care they need.”
Fauci added: “If it requires doing much more drastic things or draconian things, like maybe a temporary closure of some areas, I think some areas of the country think so, I know for sure. In some places in California, they’re in it.”
