[ad_1]

Baltic news, News from Latvia, BNN.LV, BNN-NEWS.COM, BNN-NEWS.RUSo unpleasant cough and aching neck, which many of us face in autumn and winter, can often prove to be something that is not easy to deal with. What are the main causes of a painful neck and cough, and how to deal with them, Zanna Ozolina, a pharmacist of BENU, shares in her advice.

Pharmacists indicate that the most common cause, up to 90%, of the neck pain is the virus. It is important to understand the cause of the problem in order to fight it effectively. Only then can we choose the method of treatment and the recommended remedies. But it is best to prevent inflammation and disease by strengthening immunity.

Viruses and infections

Among the viruses that cause an upset neck are a common cold, flu, mononucleosis, measles, chicken pox or epidemic parotitis. Also, bacterial infections, the most common A group of streptococcal bacteria, can cause sore throat. Bacterial infections are more common in children, in about 40% of cases. The immune response to an allergen, such as pollen, can also cause symptoms such as nasal congestion, sneezing, and inflammation of the throat. Dry air, smoking and other irritants can also cause inflammation of the mouth and throat.

How to avoid

In order to avoid throat pain, as one of the first agents, the pharmacists mention immunity by feeding on natural foods such as ginger or garlic. Vitamin C to be purchased at the pharmacy in appropriate doses and echinacea (Echinacea purpurea) containing nutritional supplements will strengthen the immune system of adult people. In turn, for young children, it is best to use probiotics or immunomodulators, such as elk supplements. Of course, let's not forget about the use of our "sun" vitamin or vitamin D. Personal hygiene also reduces the spread of the virus, which causes a high risk of morbidity.

How Important is Immunity

By age, our immunity becomes weaker, so its strength determines whether we get sick with a specific illness, and if the virus "catches" behind the legs, then the indicator is the length of our illness. Immunity is affected by several factors, but the main pharmacists mention stress, insomnia, malnutrition and lack of physical activity. In keeping with a healthy and active lifestyle, we can avoid illness.

When the teas alone are not enough

In most cases, symptoms such as neck pain, running nose, dry cough and somewhat elevated temperatures decrease in 7 – 10 days. Combination anti-inflammatory drugs can be used to relieve the disease, but this is not desirable. It's best to stay home if you happen to be ill – relax, drink plenty of liquid – both water and warm tea with ginger and honey, eat healthy food, inhale with a mixture of medicinal herbs such as chamomile and peppermint, rinse your neck with warm salt water . It is not advisable to drink hot and carbonated drinks, as these necks can irritate even more.

If, however, the neck hurts for a long time, the nose is blocked and there is a pain in the nasal cavities, and if the cough is longer than three weeks and the body temperature has been elevated for a longer time, it is advisable to contact a specialist who will give you appropriate treatment.

Carefully with antibiotics

Until the doctor has prescribed a cause for your throat pain or cough, it is advisable not to use antibiotics because in the event of a virus-induced illness it will not work, only the further deterioration of the disease will be caused by the destruction of our immune "guards" or the beneficial bacteria that are present in the gastrointestinal tract. The use of the above mentioned hot and carbonated drinks is also not recommended. Patients who are overheated should not be left unnecessarily covered with blankets, on the contrary, let cool. As an additional measure, a damp cloth can be applied to the forehead. For small patients, do not use aspirin due to possible Ray's syndrome to reduce the temperature.

How to fight with dry and damp coughing

In the onset of a virus-induced illness, the cough is often dry and itchy. Then it is recommended to use cough-reducing or cough-softening medications. They will most often contain Icelandic pickles or extracts of pine buds that will soothe and "mumble" the cough. Using a lot of fluid and taking into account the dose and administration intervals of the medicine, the cough is already becoming productive. For these symptoms, it is recommended to use an expectorant, such as ivy or syrup, or, if the sputum is more pronounced, a chemical medicine. Almost all of these agents should be taken with meals, the last daily dose at least three hours before bedtime. Also, it should not be forbidden to drink a lot of liquid.

If, however, the cough is too tiring or delayed, you should definitely contact a specialist who will give you the treatment you need.

What is good for parents may not be suitable for children

Although some diseases are prevalent in both adults and children, the pattern of many respiratory diseases in children is clearly different in adults from children, such as cold-related viruses, children can develop serious respiratory diseases such as bronchitis. In the case of acute cough, the parents, when using certain medications, whether they are prescribed by a pharmacist or prescribed by a doctor, should monitor the dynamics of dry cough becoming wet, if this dynamics is not observed, the medicine should be changed. In the case of dry, peptic ulcer, antihistamines may be added to the anti-inflammatory drugs, which will reduce irritation. Most of all, you have to worry about a productive cough, as it is often the case that small patients do not have to wake up, so when going on a stomach, the pillow should not be placed almost horizontally, but a little bit free.

It should always be remembered that we, adults, can describe our symptoms and cough, but small patients can not, therefore, parents need to listen to what coughs are in the child and should consult a specialist about the most appropriate treatments.

Three steps to health

BENU Pharmacy has developed a simple three-step program to help with this virus and cold during the process of strengthening immunity and recovering faster if it still occurs. 1, 2, 3! Be whole!. This is a new approach that explains how to handle each situation using three easy-to-understand steps. The first step is to strengthen immunity so that the disease does not go away. The second step – if signs of the first condition are present, immediate action is needed, immediately initiating treatment with appropriate means to help prevent the onset of the disease. On the other hand, if the disease is not managed to escape, the third step is the proper treatment – the pharmacist, in assessing the situation, will recommend suitable medicines for faster and proper treatment of the disease. Remember – if in doubt about your health, feel free to ask a specialist and ask the pharmacist for advice!
