The survey reveals that people with mortgage debt are too shameful to admit they are having difficulty

People with mortgage debt face tremendous challenges and obstacles as they interact with banks, bullfights and the legal system.

This is one of the conclusions of a new survey that looks at people's personal experience of mortgage risk or the risk of losing their home.

CAN, the community action network, says that many people are still too embarrassed to admit they are having difficulty.

Press secretary Cecilia Forrestal says these people are hardest to reach: "When it comes to people who are connected with their communities, their children go to school, but the hardest thing we've discovered is that they are hardest hit because they are silenced as shame, a sense of stigma and a feeling of failure and powerlessness about the situations in which they are located.
