The analysis of the Hyderabad surveys offers the future strategy of the BJP in Telangana – the Telangana Plan

The loud show of Bharati Janata’s party in the recent election of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GCMH) has become a major party leader and a morale booster in Telangana, while providing a possible picture of its future strategy to seize power in the country.

The party is convinced that it can oust Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) from power in the 2023 Assembly elections. “Our next goal is to conquer Telangana, and we will begin our efforts properly and seriously,” said Bandi Sanjay Kumar, president of the BJP Telangana unit.

The BJP ranked second in the GHMC election, gaining 48 out of 150 seats, compared to 55 that won the TRS. However, in terms of the share of votes, the BJP was only slightly behind TRS, which polled 12.06 lakes or 35.81% of the vote – with 11.95 lakes or 35.56% of the vote.

“The TRS government went to the polls very early, without giving us much time to even choose the right candidates. Otherwise, we would have won an absolute majority and possibly even hit the 100-seat mark, ”said Sanjay Bandi, president of the party’s national unit. He will travel to New Delhi to report to the high team on the party’s performance in GHMC polls.

Although the BJP is generally believed to have played its Hindutva card effectively, claiming a secret understanding between TRS and the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen, promising surgical strikes to the old town to drive the Rohingya, promising to rename Hyderabad to Bhagyanagar, etc., it also gained benefit from anti-incumbency against the TRS government in general and the seated TRS corporations in particular.

“If you look at the BJP-winning chambers, most of them are in areas that have suffered badly during the recent heavy rains and floods, such as Saroornagar, Hayathnagar, Gaddiannaram, Nagole, Moosarambagh, Amberpet, Ramanthapur, Uppal, Kavadigudalli, Gandhinagar , ”Said the head of TRS, who preferred anonymity.

He acknowledged that people facing severe difficulties during the floods were angry with the government and therefore voted for the BJP.

“Even the distribution of Rs 10,000 in cash for each victim did not help us because the local corporations cut the money,” said the head of TRS.

It is also interesting that most of the territories conquered by the BJP were considered as bastions of the TRS. “Areas such as Ramnagar, Gandhinagar, Kachiguda, Nallakunta, Bagh Amberpet, Musheerabad are inhabited by imprisoned Telangans who took an active part in the Telangana movement. The BJP has now won all these seats, “he said.

On the other hand, half of the TRS-winning chambers are located in areas such as Serilingampally, Kukatpally, Qutbullahpur and Jubilee Hills, which are dominated by Andhra colonists.

“They should have voted for the BJP normally, but they voted for the TRS thanks to the discreet support of the YSR Congress Party. And the BJP won only three seats in these areas,” the TRS leader added.

According to political analysts Suresha Dharura, the GHMC elections would certainly spread the message among voters in the rest of Telangana that the BJP is the only alternative to the TRS.

“There is now a political vacuum in Telangana because Congress has become ineffective and the TDP is no longer working. In addition, the aggressive stance adopted by the BJP has begun to attract the masses, “he said.
