According to several reports, yesterday, about 40 Ethiopian metal and engineering corporations (MeTEC) officials and security officers were arrested in Addis Ababa accused of corruption and illegal activities. Officials were arrested after they were summoned at a hotel in Gerji, a former Imperial Hotel, now called Amoraw Hotel and owned by MeTEC, writes Reporter.

MeTEC was accused, among other things, of delaying and maltreatment of the massive destruction of the Great Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD). MeTEC's major electromechanical project was seriously delayed, although improved and unclear payments were made, the recently appointed Ethiopian electricity executive Abraham Belay said last September.
