Addis Ababa, November 7 (Xinhua) – The largest annual annual racecourse in Africa, the Great Etiopian Wave (GER) is expected to attract 30 Chinese riders, an Ethiopian official said on Wednesday.
Brazilian racing director Ermiass Ayele told Xinhua that 30 Chinese players are invited to attend the 10km race on November 18th.
"GER cooperates with the Ethiopian airline Beijing office in order to attract Chinese tourists to take part in road racing, but in cooperation with the Chinese Athletic Association (CAA) has informed the GER about prestigious Chinese athletics events, such as Beijing and Shanghai marathons," said Ayele
In 2017, the East African nation attracted 45 307 Chinese tourists, and the Ethiopian government plans to increase in the coming years.
Ayele also has 500 international participants from 26 countries and regions from a total of 47,500 athletes.
In 2001, an Ethiopian rally legend Haile Gebreselassie was discovered for a 10-km-long GER, part of his efforts to move from elite sports to mass hobbies.
