He had a depression, he wanted to kill himself with a shotgun, but he failed and remained deformed: now everything changed after face transplantation

Cameron Undervud, 26, who worked as a welder, suffered a severe depression in 2003 that took him in 2016 to try and take his life to shoot himself in California, USA.

However, he failed in his purpose and remained alive, but with his face was completely deformed. This fact led to an increase in his illness to see the condition in which it was.

He lost most of his lower jaw, practically without teeth or nose, and he had to use a fluid diet that would cause problems with those left in the upper arm and palate.

This was where Underwood was when he met with a surgeon, Eduardo Rodriguez, of New York University in Langone Health in Manhattan.

In January this year, the doctor conducted a Cameron operation involving more than 100 doctors and lasted 25 hours. There, using the 3D computer and 3D face masks, the expert managed to completely change the status of a young person.

It was shown 10 months later, when the husband gave a surgeon a press conference detailing things. "I am very grateful for face transplantation, because it gives me a second chance in life," Endvud said.

"Although I still recover and regain the feeling and mobility, especially with my lips, I am still very pleased with the results, I have a nose and mouth, so I can smile, talk and eat hard food again," he said. .

Who was the donor?

To carry out a transplant, Rodriguez fulfilled the patient's life to live after being ill because of his donor, William Fisher, a 23-year-old new writer who died at the end of 2017 after fighting mental illness.

"I'd like to say that during the operation there has been so much amazing progress, I live it, but it's just because of special people like Wills and his family," said Cameron.

It was appreciated by William's mother. "My son's death was a tragedy, I'm grateful that we could give life to others, and in particular that Wils and Dr Rodriguez gave Cameron and his family the opportunity to regain their dreams," exclaimed Sally, the donor mother.

"I've been a part of this experience in a very strong period of time, it's a powerful force. I do not think I would have survived the death of him if it were not Cameron. Cameron is all in front of him and I like the idea that Willie helps him live better," the woman finished .
