Scientists from the Luxembourg Biomedical Center have proven that during the natural vaginal delivery, the child is given specific bacteria in the intestine and stimulated immune response. However, this phenomenon does not occur in children born to Caesar.
"This can explain why, in epidemiological terms, children born in Caesarean section suffer more chronic diseases associated with the immune system than vaginal children," explains Paul Wilmes, a study published by Nature Communications,
People are born without bacteria. However, birth is usually a time when important bacteria begin to colonize the body, including intestines, skin and lungs. Researchers have long suspected that this early colonization determines the line for later health. However, as concluded in this study, it can be concluded that the cesarean section prevents some bacteria that normally interact with the child's immune system to be transmitted from mother to newborn.
Wilmes, along with colleagues from Sweden and other researchers from Luxembourg, has found the first evidence of this fact study in newborns, half of whom were born with cesarean section. "We find specific bacterial substances that stimulate the immune system of the infant, which occurs vaginally." In contrast, immunological stimulation in children with caesarean section is much lower, because bacterial agents are much lower, or in other bacteria they inhibit this initial immunity, "the investigator's details.
This bacterial colonizing immune system, together with other factors, can explain why children with cesarean section are statistically more likely to develop allergies, chronic inflammatory diseases and metabolic diseases. "It's possible that the immune system of these children has changed from the beginning," says Paul Wilmes.
Researchers now want to further explore this bond and find ways to replace the missing parent bacterial strains in infants born in the caisse section, for example, by administering probiotics. "It is already clear that we can not intervene very much during the birth process, children can only eat chicks during a caesarean case when it is medically necessary." We must be aware that by doing this, we obviously interfere with the natural interaction between humans and bacteria, "he concludes.
