"A healthy diet, in addition to a good energy balance, would be optimal to cope with this winter," Zúñiga said.

He also said there was a need to improve nutrition in order to care for cold-season dried skin, to consume more protein-rich products, vitamins and minerals.

"For example, vitamin A prefers skin such as zinc, selenium and magnesium," he said.

In addition, he added that there are other micronutrients that help prevent mucous membranes, lips and eyes.

He also said that people should protect the skin during the cold season, warm up, cover their nose, mouth and wear gloves on their hands and thick socks to protect their legs.

It is advisable to keep the skin moisturized as it is the largest organ in the human body, and with cold it dehydrates, dries and flakes, it can even crack or suffer injuries that can be complicated by future infections.

"A good cream that moisturizes and prevents water loss is optimal," he said.
