KABUL: The Afghan talent show is remarkably similar to Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who has become an unlikely celebrity in a war-torn country – and may have given him a winner.
Abdul Salam Maftoon, a wedding singer from a village located in the remote and poor northeastern province of Badakhshan, has never heard of his most famous doppelgänger, while the judge at the popular television music contest Afghan star said it was unbelievable.
Slightly built with a long face and dark brown hair and eyes, Maftoon, 29, hopes that a comparative comparison with a politician who is ranked as one of the sexiest world leaders will give him more votes on the Afghan American Idol version.
"People have forgotten their name and now they call me just" Justin Trudeau, "Maftoon told AFP, his self-confident smile, revealing two gold overlays.
"I knew nothing about Justin Trudeau until I saw photos in social media.
"The similarity has contributed to my chances of winning the competition by 50 percent."
Composite photos of a couple – Maftoon, wearing a hat supported by men in northern Afghanistan, and Trudeau in western style – have made several comments on Facebook.

And tens of thousands of times a video about the Afghan panel's discussion on their physical similarities.
"Trudeau lost a twin," wrote Neila Abdulzadah on Facebook.
Fowzia Zereh published: "I think their story is like a Bollywood movie – they were separated at birth and he found his lost twin brother."
Another said, "This is a true copy of Trudeau. I'd like to see our Trudeau win this year's Afghan star."

Maftoon is a good option.
The performer is among the eight contestants to fight up to the next round of the fourth round of destruction.
The final will take place on March 21st, on the evening of New Year's Eve.
So far, Maftoon's romantic folk song repertoire, which he sings in both Afghanistan's official languages, Dari and Push, and his appearance has impressed the audience whose voices decide each week which performer is played.
He has also attracted the attention of the official judges.

"He looks like my prime minister," said Qais Ulfat, a Canadian-born Canadian musician, one of the four judges who first pointed out Maftoon's similarity to Trudeau.
"His voice is very satisfying. He has the talents of godly gifted vocals.
"This guy could be the next Justin Bieber."
So far, Maftoon relied on singing and playing instruments for wedding and birthday celebrations to support his wife and four children.
But he is convinced that his new fame will increase the demand for his entertainment services.
"When I return to my hometown, I will definitely invite me," said Maftoon, his trademark hat attached to the back of the head, as he was vocally singing with Ulfat at a local television station Tolo.
Although Maftoon soon has little chance to go to Canada, he has hope for a one-day meeting with Canada's doubling.
"I want to meet him if he wants to be a global personality, and I'm a poor man from a remote part of Afghanistan," he said.
"We'll see what's going to happen."
