American doctors have discovered that fish oil and vitamin D do not reduce cardiovascular disease and cancer risk in the most commonly used dietary supplements.
For larger doses, which doctors prescribe, fish oil helps people with high triglycerides and reduce the risk of death from cardiovascular disease.
Professionals appreciated the results of both studies presented at the American Cardiology Association conference. They said that these are guidelines for a new treatment option for hundreds of thousands of patients.
About 10 percent of Americans drink fish oil supplements. However, they have taken vitamin D, although there is not much research on their benefits.

In one study, physicians from Brigham and Womens Hospital in Boston traced the effects of a 4-gram fish oil supplement available only after a prescription. The study involved 8,000 high-triglyceride patients and a higher risk of cardiovascular problems that had already been used in statins. After five years, 17 percent of the drinkers survived the incident – a heart attack, a stroke, an arterial obstruction requiring medical intervention, and 22 percent of the placebo users.
This means that high-fat fish oil reduces the risk of cardiovascular disease by 25 percent, according to BTA. However, it has side effects, such as arrhythmias.
A second study in one and the same hospital with a lower daily dose of 1 gram of fish oil, in which 26,000 healthy volunteers participated, did not indicate a difference between addicts and the placebo group, although the first infarctions were lower.
