A month after the launch of the new Mercedes A class with the elegant MBUX system developed by Bulgarian engineers, the car giant announced its next revolutionary technology with a birthday visit. It's the world's most advanced truck cabin – the new Actros with the Active Drive Assist.
The role of the Viseon Bulgarian Development Center is enormous – from design engineering to the development of individual elements of system architecture. The device itself independently operates three different operating systems independently to provide a safe and secure environment for performing specific functions. This type of embedded system revolution is the use of hardware virtualization software to better manage peripherals. The project is based on Visteon's SmartCore technology, which combines several traditional devices into a single system. Thanks to this successful first lorry project, engineers at the Sofia Development Center are very satisfied with the opportunity to get a unique experience in high-capacity transport.
Thanks to a series of performances at various exhibitions and under its "Actros" leadership, Daimler presented live news with heavy news. The main features of the new truck are the removal of the side mirrors and the completely transformed interior of the cab. Traditional power tools (speedometers, cutters, etc.) have been replaced by a large display that can be configured to suit the driver's preference. With the touch-sensitive steering panel drastically reduces the number of buttons located on the dashboard, the driver can switch menus that provide information on the traffic condition and load condition, driving mode, or simply quick access to the media and the connected phone.
Other young actors are interesting modules:
- semi-autonomous driving (the truck tracks and leaves the lane)
- identification of road signs and objects, as well as traffic participants
- Lane Lane statement (for manual drive) and warning for objects in the blind (empty) field of vision
- configurable dashboard view according to driver preferences and truck adjustment in driver profile
In addition to the information panel, it is worth paying attention to the central touch screen with an intuitive interface, steering wheel buttons and the quick release button bar below the center display. They allow the driver to easily navigate through the menus, whether it is music and entertainment, or to obtain important information about the condition of the truck and manage various functions that can be further installed on the vehicle.
The following main menus are available on the central screen:
- Media and radio
- Phone and Smartphone (using Apple Interfaces – CarPlay and Google – AndroidAuto)
- Light control
- Forklift status
- Virtual buttons
- Air Conditioning Control
Mercedes-Benz Trucks is equipped with over 60 new features that actually release serially-produced partial autonomous driving, and Bulgarian engineers once again demonstrate their world-class ideas and skills.
