Speaking at a press conference, Doukkali pointed out that the occurrence of seasonal A (H1N1) influenza virus cases in the UK remains a normal fact, especially as a national surveillance system. and epidemiological surveillance records every year, as in other countries, cases of contamination of this virus during the winter season.

In Morocco, the Ministry of Health's oversight of the Ministry of Health consists of the epidemiological surveillance of a flu-like illness in the public sector established in 2004-2005. The season, which includes a network of 375 health centers. in the public sector.

He also pointed out that his department would like to strengthen the clinical and virological surveillance of influenza-like illnesses and severe acute respiratory infections, currently used in eight health centers and public hospitals (Rabat, Fez, Marrakech, Meknes). , Beni Mellal, Oujda and Agadir).

An analysis of the epidemiological data on influenza syndromes shows that the seasonal epidemic begins on 17-23 March 2018. In December and the peak of the epidemic, which reached around 7-9 January 2019, indicating that influenza, as a rule, affects all age groups in Morocco, with a small prevalence in adults.

An analysis of clinical and virological data on influenza and severe acute respiratory infections in Morocco shows a similar situation observed in the world, adding that out of the 541 samples received at the National Institute of Hygiene by 20 January 2019, virological testing confirmed 100 influenza A viruses prevalence of type-1 viruses compared to type B viruses.

In this context, Mr Doukkali recommended that the population be vaccinated against the virus, especially for people with chronic diseases, pregnant women and children from 6 months to 5 years, as well as people over 65 years of age. and patients with specific chronic diseases.

In addition, he called on health care professionals to take preventive action, such as regular hands washing, reducing contact with flu patients, covering the mouth with cough and sneezing. using disposable tissues and ventilating the living space.

He also pointed out that he would inform the public of any developments in the epidemiological situation in order to protect the health of the entire population.
