Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., a subsidiary of Qualcomm Incorporated (NASDAQ: QCOM), today announced its use of its Device Identification, Registration and Blocking System (DIRBS) platform as a free open source downloadable software.
Qualcomm Technologies' server software platform DIRBS can be used to help locate counterfeit, illegal and stolen mobile devices in one country. The DIRBS software platform will help regulators classify devices and build IMEI-based lists for reporting, amnesties and blocking purposes. DIRBS has been successfully deployed in Pakistan and it is planned to continue its operations in several other markets in the coming months.
"Falsified devices are one of the biggest global challenges that make every year a loss of sales revenue of around € 45.3 billion, according to a recent European Union intellectual property study published in February 2017," Mohammad Raheel Kamal, IPR Senior Executive Officer, Qualcomm Incorporated. "The joint DIRBS solution as a freely downloadable open source software will enable the mobile industry to quickly deploy this powerful technology to address counterfeiting and related issues around the world."
