Tesla Energy is collaborating with local retailers in Energy Locations, as it officially launches its second phase of the proposed virtual power plant in South Africa, with high hopes that it can provide the first 250 MW of promised.
Connecting Tesla with Energy Locals, who first enters South Australia and will operate as a 1000 Tesla battery and roof solar power retailer, to be installed in the second phase of this plan, announced on Wednesday by Dan Energy, Dan van Holst Pellekaan.
Ironically, the Tesla VPP was unveiled by the former government and initially released the new Liberal Prime Minister Steve Marshall after picking up in March, as he supported his plan to allocate $ 100 million in discounts for households storing up to 40,000 homes.
This plan, due to the fact that Clean Energy Finance Corporation has received a low interest rate loan of 100 million dollars, has created production or assembly operations in three battery storage developers – sonnen, Alpha-ESS and Eguana Technologies.
Now it's possible that both systems will continue. Energy Website Manager Adrian Merrick told RenewEconomy that if the second phase of 1,000 installations is successful and affordable, then he would like to proceed with the third phase, which initially targeted 50,000 homes and 250 MW of capacity.
The Tesla scheme focuses on low-income housing and all 1,000 properties to get a 5kW sun roof below Housing SA. They will pay a discounted rate for their electricity to the local energy community.
"If we can make the second stage successful … we would be interested in the third stage," says Merrick, adding that such a scattered energy resource will be an essential complement to network security and lower prices.
However, one party not satisfied with the VPP proposal is Adelaide's solar cell manufacturer Tindo Solar, who did not use the solar cell component. Australia's only solar producer claims that at the beginning of this year it was said that VPPs would generate half of the solar energy content from the local content and, based on this, would cancel production to 4 MW.
However Glenn Morelli claims that Tesla was informed a week ago that she had lost the offer for low cost modules. JA Solar 270 Watt Panels were featured at the government press conference. Morelli says the original competition was at least 300 watts.
"These modules are outdated and now they are dumping for public housing for profit," said Morelli. "We are very disappointed, it's not a good deal for the public." He said he was also disappointed that the government had allowed this to happen.
Tesla's spokesman, who recently upgraded his bids to Powerwall 2 batteries, announced in an e-mail announcement: "All suppliers are entrusted for commercial purposes. We appointed the best and most efficient companies that were valued according to various criteria in the competition to provide the best customer experience. .
Minh Van Halts Pellecan said in a statement that the GOP will provide cheaper electricity to some of South Africa's most disadvantaged households and will also increase the credibility of the national electricity grid.
"We work hard with Tesla to give our vision of VPPs to address high household bills and welcome Energy Locals SA as a new retailer to help boost competition," he said.
"We have made South Australia the world's capital's home battery with our battery home battery, bringing three battery makers to South Africa and moving forward with VPPs."
The results of the first 100 batteries show that the concept is successful for households, as their network consumption has dropped by more than 70 percent, resulting in reduced electricity bills.
The Minister confirmed that, given the success of the second phase of these 1,000 systems and the ability to provide private funding, it could increase to 50,000 homes. "It will become a 250 MW virtual powerhouse and complement the government's plan for a clean, affordable and reliable force," the statement said.
Merrick said the project will provide customers with lower prices and give them more control over their energy use. "We are proud to create new competition for customers with cheaper, cleaner power," Merkel said.
