Most requested university courses this year

On Wednesday afternoon, more than 63,000 Victorian students leaving school will discover whether they have got a place in their favorable courses when the first-round university offers are released.

The data from the Victoria Tertiary Reception Center website show that Melbourne University Science is Victoria's second most popular course, in which 1965 students marked it first.

It was followed by a medicine at Monash University, which was the first option for 1696 students.

Other popular courses included applied science / physiotherapy at La Trobe University and a nursing home at the Australian Catholic University and Deakin University.

Mollie McKenzie, who is in the heart of biomedicine at the University of Melbourne, is excited about the release of first-round offers.

The 18-year-old is tied to Victoria's fifth most popular course because it allows students to become a major bioengineer, including the cultivation of limbs, skin and ear implants.

"I find it so interesting," she says. “They are looking for growing organs and better implants. It is open to so many research opportunities and you can travel. ”

McKenzie completed 12th in Northcote High School last year and received 95.4% of ATAR.

She says her key to the success of her VCE was to ask teachers questions and to balance her research with hockey and part-time work as a swimming instructor in a local pool.

“I had no purpose at ATAR; I just wanted to do my best and see where it was for me, ”she says.

Her second choice is science at the University of Melbourne.

She has not yet decided whether she will pursue a career in medicine or science. "I want to keep my chances open," she says.

Some paramedical courses have received great impetus from students.

Monash University's medical offer at Frankston University was the first preference for 470 people (151 more than last year), while 458 people in the Australian Catholic University stream included their top choice (83 more than last year).

And with 207 first-choice applications, Victoria University's paramedical course was the institution's most popular offer in 2019.

Architecture was the most popular RMIT course with 285 first-choice applications. The film and television were the most sought after Swinburne, with 162, and 100 students hoping to enter the University of Berwick, a nursing federation.

In total, 63,882 people have applied for a place in one of the 2000 courses offered at universities and higher education institutions in Victoria. Withdrawal of 12-year-olds from 2018 forms the majority of applications through VTAC, but mature students also study through the state administration.

Monash University was the destination for nearly a quarter of applicants (15,105 people), followed by the University of Melbourne (11,332) and RMIT (10,858).
