They say that cats have a parasite that causes schizophrenia in humans

January 31, 2019 – 12:02
Cats are many ideal pets regardless of their independence and behavior. For years, hundreds of cultures worshiped cats, but now the study destroys their image, claiming that they have a parasite that could detonate schizophrenia in humans.

Toxoplasma gondii spreads among humans by communicating with cat litter and consuming raw meat.
T. gondii, as is well known, is usually not hurt, but Copenhagen University scientists have investigated that it seems to prove the opposite, because the risk of developing schizophrenia increases by 50 percent for those infected with the virus.
In the Danish Blood Donor Survey, the University of Copenhagen specialists analyzed over 80,000 people who found 2,000 591 people with mental disabilities.
Kristoffers Sølvsten Burgdorf conducted an analysis of infected human samples to search for immunoglobulin antibody traces with the presence of T. gondii.
The team discovered a parasite in a fourth of the population studied in Copenhagen, of which 61% were cytomegalovirus (CMV), a virus that also caused cognitive impairment.
The study found that those infected with T. gondii are almost 50% more likely to diagnose schizophrenia than those unable to diagnose schizophrenia.
This confirms that Toxoplasma has a positive effect on the rate of schizophrenia, ”the researchers explained.

The parasite

Dr. Burgdorf workers explained that for this reason, they associate a parasite with the onset of schizophrenia and are not associated with any other mental disorder.
This parasite can prevent the action of amino acids in the body called tryptophan, which would cause a large amount of metabolites such as kinurenic acid, a substance previously found in people with schizophrenia.
"Tryptophan is also a major serotonin precursor involved in depressive disorders," writes the authors.
According to Daily Mail, T. gondii parasite can cause a human infection called toxoplasmosis that causes flu-like symptoms; while pregnant women can suffer from miscarriage or stillbirth.
Meanwhile, the University of Chicago said that almost a third of the world's population is also infected with this virus, which can cause psychological harm.
This university has 60 million in the United States and 350 thousand in the UK.
A healthy immune system can fight it, so its symptoms are almost invisible.
