Lyle Silver and Anderson Koeberg are involved in several murders and assassinations in Steenberger and Muisenberg areas.
CAPE TOWN – The Western Cape Police has arrested two potential gang leaders.
Men were detained after they were involved in a number of violations.
The arrests are made after the creation of the newly created Anti-Gang unit.
Lyle Silver and Anderson Koeberg, who, according to the police, are related to the 26 Junky Funky Kids gang, are associated with several murders and assassinations in the areas of Steenberger and Muisenberg.
Koeberg is accused of involvement in at least five homicides, including a one-year-old child in Steenberger.
It is believed that silver has been behind four murders in the Muisenberg district.
Both are accused of abduction, assassination attempts and robbery.
Meanwhile, on Wednesday in Parliament, Police Minister Bheki Cele celebrated the achievements of the newly formed counter-unit.
"We are aware that they are dealing with very dangerous criminals. It is precisely in this field that their training is outsourced, they are better trained to deal with this situation."
Since its deployment this month, this unit has committed more than 60 arrests.
