SABC needs R3bn … so that salaries can be paid

The SABC human resources executive Jonathan Thekiso said that Chapter 189 process would affect all departments, all levels, including management, and all provincial offices. The organization has identified 981 of its 3,380 employees to reduce their number.

"The selection of employees will be affected based on an objective assessment of skills, experience, knowledge and / or qualifications. In short, it will be based on competences and qualifications. The" last, first out "principle will apply if employees have similar qualifications and competences," said Thekiso

Members were not sure.

They accused the bosses of SABC that they did not do enough to avoid interruptions and demanded that they look at other options. They also called for "an appropriate skills audit".

"We need innovation. I'm disappointed that you come here and talk about falling things. I expect you to address issues at macro level or at a strategic level," said ANC Member Bongani Bongo.

DA Phumzile Van Damme suggested that the broadcaster should sell some of its properties, including its artwork, by 40,000 million.

"Your plan does not make sense. You need billions and you cook biscuits. You do not think so," she said.

SABC has recently performed a skill review in 2013 with the auditing firm PricewaterhouseCoopers, and was still up to date with bosses.
